Ian Potten. A brief introduction of myself.

Hi
I originate from the south of England, but have lived in Scotland for the last
8 years. Mainly on the Northern Isles, first Shetland, now Orkney, with a short
spell in between in Renfrewshire. I have 2 main interests, flying and diving.
I am fortunate enough to make my living out of the flying. The diving is great
fun, but continues to take more out of my bank account than it is ever likely
to put back.
My means of getting into the air is a Britten Norman Islander. Not the fastest
machine in the skies but well suited to serving the smaller islands in this part
of the world. My "working world" generally extends from Shetland to Aberdeen,
with occasional excursions to the Hebrides or the Central Belt of Scotland. Only
once in the last 8 years have I crossed the border into England in a professional
capacity.
Diving has taken me on several holidays to the tropics. However with the Atlantic and the North Sea on my doorstep (well maybe not that close but certainly inside 5 minutes walk away) most of my diving is done in latitudes out with the lines of Capricorn and Cancer. Of recent, most of my underwater activities have involved wreck diving, but I am not adverse to diving of the scenic variety.
However life is about to change, as I shortly start a new job requiring me to
spend time in Antarctica. The British
Antarctic Survey site gives a much better idea of my soon to be surroundings
than I can articulate here. The aircraft I will be flying whilst out there is
the DHC6
Twin Otter. This does mean that at times updates to this site, & even
replies to emails may be sparse.
